Police Search For Suspect After Derby Woman Found Murdered Following Initial Hit-Run Report

An apparent fatal hit-and-run in Connecticut is now being investigated as a homicide, police said.

Officers from the Derby Police Department alerted police in Ansonia of a hit-and-run involving a pedestrian who was struck at approximately 4:50 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 30 near the intersection of Coe Lane and North Coe Lane.

Police said that when officers arrived on scene, they found a 20-year-old woman suffering from upper body injuries that were not consistent with a motor vehicle accident but rather an assault.

The woman - whose name is being withheld - was transported to Griffin Hospital in Derby, where she was pronounced dead.

According to police, investigators in Ansonia are working with the Connecticut Chief Medical Examiner to determine the cause of death.

A black Pontiac Aztek motor vehicle involved in this incident has been located and is in the custody of investigators as the Ansonia Police Department and Derby Police Department Detective Bureaus follow up leads to identify a suspect.
